Pleibol: Soñando con Grandes Ligas
Pleaibol: Soñando con Grandes Ligas is a body of work representative of Jonathan Ortiz’ focus in art for the past 2 years: Puerto Rican baseball. A love letter to the sport and the island. Like many Puerto Ricans, he left the island in order to pursue new opportunities. As an outsider to Chicago, I found comfort in a very familiar pastime: Baseball. Going to games at Wrigley Field became a frequent activity. Watching the Cubs’ short-stop Javy Báez served as a reminder, that “in order to make it in the big leagues, you need to play outside (of the island)”.
The collection highlights the marriage between art and baseball through portraits of Puerto Rico’s most elite MLB players.
“In order to make it in the big leagues, I need to go play outside (of the island)”. Join Puerto Rican artist Jonathan Ortiz Román, for his first solo show “Pleibol: Soñando con Grandes Ligas”. A love letter to the island and the game of baseball through portraits of Puerto Rican major leaguers. This was the opening that took place on June 3rd / 6pm.
